On the 19th March 2013, the first meeting of the newly formed Sprotbrough Local History Group was held. There were 28 people in attendance from the surrounding area and a great time was had. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways in which the group could pool the vast wealth of local knowledge that existed within the room and put it to good use for the benefit of others.
After an hour long discussion it was decided that future meetings would stick to a very loose agenda where the evening would be divided into 2 or 3 parts. One of those parts would be an open discussion for everyone to share photographs, documents, and memories that pertained to Sprotbrough in particular. Another part of the meeting would be spent updating the 1969 W. E. A. publication entitled ‘Sprotbrough in History parts 1 & 2. Future meetings would also allow time for a short refreshment break somewhere in the middle.
Symeon Waller of doncasterhistory.co.uk chaired the proceedings with help from Barry Crabtree, local history journalist, although everyone in attendance was encouraged to voice their opinion on what they wanted to see the group achieve.
If you would like to join the group or feel that you would be able to help in any way then please get in touch with the Chair or just turn up on the night. Future meetings will be held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, the next one being on 16th April at 6:00pm.
